French Open: Swiatek v. Podoroska

Who will WIN this matchup?

Iga Swiatek (POL)

Nadia Podoroska (ARG)

Current odds:

Iga Swiatek: (-400)

Nadia Podoroska: (+300)

Iga Swiatek did not face any letdowns in the follow-up of her Simona Halep stunner. Brushing off an early break hiccup, the 19-year-old quickly ended qualifier Martina Trevisan’s Cinderella run in just an hour and 18 minutes, 6-3, 6-1, in the quarterfinals. She struck 20 winners and 19 unforced errors and won 6/8 return games.

It is safe to say there is not a single soul who would have seen Nadia Podoroska become a Grand Slam semifinalist a couple of weeks ago. Her only previous slam main draw appearance ended in the first round of the 2016 US Open, and she held a 3-10 main draw record in tour-level events, with her latest win coming in 2018. Podoroska, who has never been ranked higher than 130, held no top 50 wins at the start of this event. While she defeated 23rd seed Putintseva in the second round to tick off that milestone, the 23-year-old caught the big fish when she stunned third seed Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-4, in her maiden top 10 meeting.
