Men’s US Open – Final: #5 Zverev v. #2 Thiem

Who will WIN the championship?

#5 Alexander Zverev (GER)

#2 Dominic Thiem (AUT)

Current odds:

Alexander Zverev: (+300)

Dominic Thiem: (-400)

Alexander Zverev recovered from a hopeless start to overcome Pablo Carreno Busta in five sets in the semifinal of the US Open on Friday. It was a terrific comeback effort from the German considering he was trailing the match 3-6 0-5 at one stage, 3-6 2-6 6-3 6-4 6-3. Despite having a pretty comfortable road to the semifinal in New York this fortnight, world #7 Alexander Zverev hasn’t looked entirely convincing in most of his six matches. Moreover, he made a terrible start to his recent two matches — against Borna Coric and Pablo Carreno Busta — and cannot afford yet another slow start against the in-form Dominic Thiem.

In what was expected to be a tough and grueling encounter against Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem managed to seal the win in straight sets. However, it wasn’t straightforward as he had to recover from a break deficit in the second and third sets, 6-2 7-6 7-6. Dominic Thiem resumed his season a few weeks back as one of the strong contenders for Cincinnati Masters and the US Open, and no one else outside of the Big-Three deserves a slam as much as the Austrian.

Dominic Thiem thoroughly deserves to win this title, and he also starts as the firm favorite to continue his dominance against Alexander Zverev (7-2), but a lot depends on how well he handles the pressure of being the favorite in the final of a slam.
