• Matteo Politano is back at full fitness for Sassuolo and he is expected to feature here after starting on the bench against Athletic Club. Domenico Berardi isn’t expected back from his injury until December after postponing his comeback once again.

• Dries Mertens is favourite to lead the line despite the availability of Manolo Gabbiadini for Napoli. Emanuele Giaccherini is also ready to get more playing time after skipping the first part of the season due to injury.

• Napoli won a tricky game in Udine in the last round but then only managed to obtain a draw at home against Dinamo Kyiv in the Champions League. They have still not secured their place in the next round of the Champions League but can’t afford to take their eye off the league.

• Sassuolo should be in a better place after the winter break after being eliminated from the Europa League group stages on Thursday. The Neroverdi has struggled to handle two competitions and have fallen to 16th in the league as a result. They can now focus all of their attentions on climbing back up the table.

• Napoli have cut the gap between them and second to just two points, but they need a win to keep the pace here. Sassuolo are not really thought to be relegation candidates despite their league position, but they are still a long way off their pre-season target so they need to regroup quickly.
