• Bernado could switch to left-back, with Marcel Halstenberg a major doubt to recover from a thigh injury in time for Leipzig. Benno Schmitz would fill in for Bernardo at right-back in that case. Naby Keita is doubtfiul to recover from a pulled hamstring and could be replaced by captain Dominik Kaiser.

• Manager Carlo Ancelotti could switch to a 4-2-3-1 formation again here to enable Thomas Müller to start in his favoured central role after his team struggled to break down Darmstadt following a return to his usual 4-3-3 system on the weekend. Javi Martínez should replace the injured Jérôme Boateng at centre-back again. Arjen Robben could return from injury to start on the right wing, while Franck Ribéry will most likely return on the left flank as well.

• Bayern are top of the table on goal difference only and want to make a statement against their main domestic rivals so far. They struggled to break down Darmstadt at the weekend though and could therefore switch back to a 4-2-3-1 formation here to allow an extra attacking player to come in on the flanks.

• Leipzig can make a huge statement here and should play aggressive and press high from the outset. Injuries at the back and the possible absence of midfield man Naby Keita could cost them important stability here though.

• Expect this to be a very intense game, with Bayern having to find solutions in possession and Leipzig to put them under pressure early to set up their quick counter-attacks.
