• There are suggestions Wayne Rooney will be dropped in order to get Eric Dier into the team against Slovenia. Marcus Rashford will be pushing for a start ahead of one of Theo Walcott or Jesse Lingard.

• Slovenia will be without star player Kevin Kampl after the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder controversially withdrew from the squad through ‘exhaustion’.

• England beat Malta 2-0 in Gareth Southgate’s first game as manager on Saturday and they will now face a Slovenia side that should be confident after pulling off a surprise 1-0 win over Slovakia on Saturday.

• Slovenia have only lost three of their last 13 home games and don’t tend to concede many on their own turf. In fact, they have only let in seven goals in that time and England scored three of those in one match. Aside from that, they’ve kept eight clean sheets.

• In England’s last five away World Cup qualifiers they have only managed to score more than one goal on one occasion and have drawn three of those matches. Southgate’s men are clear favourites but this won’t be the walkover that some may expect.
