An under pressure Gordon Strachan has plenty to ponder ahead of what could prove to be his last game in charge of Scotland. Stephen Kingsley and Lee Wallace look to battle for a spot at left-back, while the Scotland boss could be tempted to gamble on raw talent Oliver Burke in a bid to salvage something from this game.

Wayne Rooney was dropped to the bench in England’s 0-0 draw against Slovenia last time out but could return to the starting XI with Dele Alli ruled out of the international break with a twisted knee. Jack Wilshere returns to the squad for the first time since Euro 2016 but may be forced to watch this World Cup qualifier from the bench. Harry Kane is also back in the squad after returning from a seven-week injury lay-off in Tottenham’s draw but may be kept on the bench here.

England are unbeaten in Group F and two points clear at the top ahead of their match against home rivals Scotland. Gareth Southgate reportedly has matches against Scotland and Spain to prove his credentials for the full-time job, but they will need to show improvements from their 0-0 draw against Slovenia last time out.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is under immense pressure and reportedly needs to avoid defeat against England in order to save his job. Scotland have only won one of their opening three World Cup qualifiers and have just won one in their last five matches.

England have won six of the last seven matches against Scotland and should edge this contest here.
