The Terrapins ran their winning streak to four games with a 92-66 rout of Jacksonville State on Monday behind 23 points from star Melo Trimble. Maryland has shot 45 percent or better from the field in three straight games – albeit against weak competition – and hopes to continue that trend heading into Big Ten play next Tuesday against Illinois.

The 49ers are coming off consecutive lopsided losses to Wake Forest 91-74 and Florida 87-46 and look for their first win since Dec. 3.

The 49ers play an up-tempo style under second-year coach and former NBA All-Star Mark Price. Charlotte is led by sophomore guard Jon Davis (19.1 points, 3.6 assists) and backcourt mates Braxton Ogbueze (12.1 points) and Andrien White (11.7 points), but 6-7 swingman Austin Ajukwa scored a team-high 12 points off the bench against Florida in his Charlotte debut after sitting out the past year following his transfer from Clemson. Forward Anthony Vanhook (9.5 points, 5.9 rebounds) has been the most effective post player for a 49ers team that doesn’t start anyone taller than 6-6.

The Terrapins start a trio of freshmen in forward Justin Jackson (11.3 points, 6.1 rebounds) and guards Anthony Cowan (10.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists) and Kevin Huerter (7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds). The newcomers provide a solid supporting cast for Trimble (17.7 points), who has hit game-winning buckets or free throws in the final seconds of three games this season. The Terrapins have a major size advantage inside with 7-1 center Michal Cekovsky (10 points, 3.5 rebounds), but will be without fellow big man Damonte Dodd (5.9 points, 5.3 rebounds), who is out with a sprained left knee.

Maryland is 30-for-65 from 3-point range over the past three games after shooting 29.2 percent in its first nine contests.
