• The Texas Rangers began August by extending their winning streak to five games before a 3-11 stretch threatened to change the temperature of the team. Back-to-back victories, however, have given the Rangers some momentum as they embark on a six-game road trip with the first of four against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Although his team has struggled, the same doesn’t hold true for Willie Calhoun as the 24-year-old highlighted his sixth multi-hit performance in his last eight games with a homer in Texas’ 8-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday. Calhoun has gone deep three times and scored six runs in that stretch for the Rangers, who won two of three against the White Sox on June 21-23.

• Jose Abreu, who went just 2-for-13 in that series, capped a sterling set against Minnesota on Wednesday afternoon by going 3-for-5 with a pair of run-scoring singles to give him five hits — including two homers — and seven RBIs in his last three games. The 32-year-old is 29-for-85 with six homers, 22 RBIs and 16 runs scored while hitting safely in 17 of 21 games this month.

• Jurado fell to 1-6 in his last nine starts after allowing eight runs for the second time in as many contests during Saturday’s 12-7 setback against Minnesota. The 23-year-old has been taken deep six times in his last four outings after surrendering 10 homers in his previous 22. Jurado owns an 0-1 mark with a 6.75 ERA in two career starts versus Chicago, with a no-decision coming on June 21 after permitting four runs on six hits in six innings.

• Detwiler allowed four runs in his second straight outing and surrendered two homers for the third time in his last four trips to the mound on Sunday in a no-decision at the Los Angeles Angels. The 33-year-old has surrendered seven runs and issued as many walks in 10.0 innings to split a pair of decisions in two career starts against Texas. Detwiler has endured tremendous difficulty versus right-handed batters, who have hit a robust .341 against him with 10 homers.

• Chicago 2B Yolmer Sanchez (10-for-29) and SS Tim Anderson (17-for-35) are riding respective nine- and eight-game hitting streaks into the series opener.

• Texas DH Hunter Pence, who drove in the winning run on Wednesday, is 9-for-18 in his last five games.

• White Sox 3B Yoan Moncada is expected to be reinstated from the injured list on Thursday after being sidelined for three weeks with a strained right hamstring.
