Karim Bellarabi and Joel Pohjanpalo are both ruled out for the trip to Spurs on Wednesday night and are joined on the sidelines by Lars Bender. Roger Schmidt is sweating on the fitness of Omer Toprak and Jonathan Tah, with the pair set to be assessed closer to kick off.

Harry Kane is closing in on a return to fitness following an ankle problem, but misses out as does Erik Lamela. Toby Alderweireld will miss out here and his involvement in Sunday’s North London Derby is also in doubt. Moussa Sissoko could start, with the Frenchman ruled out of Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal, with Vincent Janssen leading the attack.

Tottenham were fortunate to come away with a point in their meeting with Bayer Leverkusen having been on the backfoot for much of the fixture in Germany. They need to make home comforts count to secure their place in the next round of the competition, with the welcome of a disappointing Bayer 04 side the perfect chance for their second win in the competition this term.

The Bundesliga outfit have won only one of their last five competitive outing, including a DFB Pokal defeat to lowly Sportfreunde Lotte. However, they won their most recent away match, securing victory over Wolfsburg at the weekend, which will have boosted morale ahead of the meeting with Tottenham.

After playing out a draw in Germany, a similar result is certainly a possibility, with Spurs’ winless run continuing.
