• Reigning National League Most Valuable Player Christian Yelich is showing no signs of let-up following his phenomenal second half last year and leads his first-place Milwaukee Brewers into the opener of a three-game interleague series at the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Yelich slugged his fifth home run and drove in three runs in a 4-2 win over the Chicago Cubs on Sunday to give the Brewers three straight series wins to begin the year. Josh Hader finished the victory with an eight-out save and has 13 strikeouts and one hit allowed in 7 2/3 scoreless innings on the year. “We rode him a long time today,” Yelich told reporters of Hader, who had not pitched since Tuesday. “You know when he has that much rest, he is going to come out and be pretty good.”

• The Angels have a red-hot former MVP of their own in Mike Trout, who homered for the fourth straight game in Sunday’s 7-2 win over Texas at home. The 27-year-old superstar is 7-for-14 with five homers and seven walks during a five-game hitting streak.

• Chacin has lasted 5 1/3 innings in each of his first two starts while allowing just six total hits and striking out 13. The 31-year-old, who went 5-6 with a 4.68 ERA in 29 games with the Angels in 2016, has a 3.79 mark in 19 career interleague starts. Chacin struck out 12 in six innings in his only prior start against Los Angeles.

• Cahill will be making his home debut after a pair of solid showings at Oakland and Seattle to begin the year. He limited the Mariners to a run and three hits in six innings Tuesday while getting the no-decision in a 2-1 loss for the Angels. The 31-year-old has a 2.29 ERA in 13 career games against the Brewers, but just one of those outings came as a starter.

• Brewers CF Lorenzo Cain is 7-for-14 with three doubles and a home run during a four-game hitting streak.

• Angels DH Albert Pujols is a .329 hitter with 42 home runs in 177 career games against Milwaukee.

• Brewers LF Ryan Braun needs four hits to tie Cecil Cooper (1,815) for third place on the franchise’s all-time list.
