• The Milwaukee Brewers can’t find their stride and the Pittsburgh Pirates are lurking just three games behind in the National League Central. Pittsburgh looks to make up some ground when it hosts the Brewers on Friday in the opener of a three-game set. Milwaukee is in a first-place tie with the Chicago Cubs after losing three of four to the Cincinnati Reds while the Pirates won three of four from the Cubs despite being smacked 11-3 on Thursday. All-Star first baseman Josh Bell had four homers and 11 RBIs during the series, including one RBI in Thursday’s loss to raise his major league-leading count to 81.

• The Brewers had two just hits in a 1-0 loss to the Reds on Thursday and have failed to score in 23 consecutive innings. Major league home run leader Christian Yelich (31 blasts) is batting .324 with two homers and seven RBIs in 37 at-bats against Pittsburgh this season and is 4-for-9 with a homer in his career against scheduled starter Steven Brault.

• Davies is 0-2 over his last four outings after opening the season with seven straight victories. The 26-year-old received a no-decision against the Pirates on Sunday when he gave up one run and six hits over 5 1/3 innings. Davies beat Pittsburgh twice earlier in the campaign and stands 4-5 with a 5.08 ERA in 12 career starts against the Pirates.

• Brault received a no-decision while matched against Davies on Sunday and gave up one run on five hits over 4 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old was 1-0 with a 2.42 ERA in five June starts when he allowed just seven earned runs while striking out 23 across 26 innings. Brault has a 2.45 ERA in two starts against Milwaukee this season and is 1-2 with a 3.83 ERA in 13 career appearances (seven starts) versus the Brewers.

• The Brewers won two of three from the Pirates last weekend and hold an 8-2 edge this season.

• Pittsburgh CF Starling Marte, who is 10-for-21 during a five-game hitting streak, is 10-for-23 all-time versus Davies.

• Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun (knee) sat out Thursday and is questionable for the series opener.
