• Adam Jones found himself caught up in the slow free-agent market last offseason and did not sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks until March 11, but the veteran outfielder comes into Thursday’s series finale at the Atlanta Braves showing no ill effects. The former Baltimore standout smashed his fifth homer for his new team and drew a 10th-inning, bases-loaded walk in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory, and he enters Thursday hitting .319 with a .999 OPS through 18 games. Arizona has won three games in a row and exploited a struggling Braves bullpen in the first two games of the series. After their relief corps walked six hitters and surrendered seven runs in three innings Tuesday in the series opener, the Braves announced before Wednesday’s game that co-closer Arodys Vizcaino is lost for the season to right shoulder surgery.

• Jesse Biddle then committed a throwing error and walked three hitters in the 10th as Atlanta fell for the fourth time in six games. Outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. singled in the 10th to extend his hitting streak to eight games, and is hitting .536 in that stretch with four homers.

• Weaver’s third start of the season was his best effort to date despite taking the loss Friday against San Diego, giving up two runs on five hits with no walks and eight strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old has limited right-handed batters to a .214 average with 12 strikeouts in 42 at-bats so far, but left-handers are 7-for-20 with three extra base hits and only three strikeouts. Acquired from St. Louis in the Paul Goldschmidt trade in the offseason, Weaver gave up eight runs in 4 2/3 innings in his only career appearance against Atlanta in 2018.

• Soroka did not pitch in spring training after experiencing right shoulder issues that limited his rookie season to five major-league starts, but he is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start the series finale. Scratched from Gwinnett’s lineup Wednesday, the 21-year-old allowed one earned run or fewer in three of his starts with Atlanta last season, including 6 1/3 innings of one-hit shutout pitching against the New York Mets on June 13. Rated the 24th best prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline entering 2019, Soroka went 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two minor-league starts.

• Braves C Brian McCann doubled home two runs Wednesday in his first at-bat since coming off the injured list with a hamstring injury.

• Diamondbacks RHP Greg Holland picked up his fourth save with a scoreless 10th, and has not allowed a run in his past 11 appearances dating back to Sept. 18, 2018.

• Atlanta 1B Freddie Freeman had a single Wednesday, and has reached base in all 17 games this season.
