• The Los Angeles Dodgers will try to bounce back after an improbable loss at Chavez Ravine when they host the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday in what could be a heated middle contest of their three-game set. Carson Kelly hit two home runs – a two-run shot in the ninth inning off closer Kenley Jansen and a solo blast against Julio Urias in the 11th – to give the Diamondbacks a 3-2 victory in the series opener. Tempers flared at game’s end – a result of Arizona right-hander Archie Bradley taking exception to A.J. Pollock’s slow departure from the field after arguing he was hit by a pitch that resulted in a pop fly for Los Angeles’ first out in the 11th. Both benches and bullpens emptied before calm was restored and the Diamondbacks could fully enjoy their third straight victory and fifth in six games.

• Arizona (59-57) sits 1 1/2 games behind Milwaukee for the second National League wild-card spot and 17 back of the first-place Dodgers (77-41) in the NL West. A struggling Kenta Maeda takes the mound for Los Angeles on Saturday with perhaps his spot in the rotation at stake as he opposes rookie Alex Young, whose career is off to a promising start.

• Young allowed two runs, three hits and three walks with nine strikeouts in six innings of a 3-0 loss to Washington on Aug. 2 in his seventh game (sixth start). The 25-year-old native of Illinois, who was selected by Texas in the 32nd round of the 2012 draft, owns an 0.87 WHIP and 1.67 opponents’ batting average. Young pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in Arizona’s 5-4 loss at Dodger Stadium on July 2 – his only appearance against Los Angeles.

• Maeda did not factor in the decision after permitting five runs in 2 2/3 innings of Los Angeles’ 11-10 comeback victory over San Diego on Sunday. The 31-year-old native of Japan hasn’t won since May 31, going 0-6 with a 5.26 ERA in 12 games (11 starts) during that span. Ketel Marte is 7-for-14 while Jake Lamb is 9-for-29 with two home runs and three doubles versus Maeda, who is 5-5 with a 4.54 ERA in 17 career games (14 starts) versus the Diamondbacks – including a 1-0 record and 3.09 ERA in two turns this season.

• Bradley pitched the 11th inning, extending his scoreless streak to 13 games (16 1/3 frames).

• The Dodgers on Friday acquired C Jose Lobaton from Seattle for cash considerations and assigned him to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

• Kelly on Friday recorded his first two-home run performance and has 16 for his career.
