• Adam Jones is proving to be a perfect fit for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who signed the 33-year-old outfielder midway through spring training. Arizona continues its three-game series against the host San Diego Padres on Tuesday looking to carry the momentum from Monday’s 10-3 victory. A native of San Diego, Jones led off Monday’s contest with his third home run and is 9-for-24 in five games with his new club. The Diamondbacks, who opened the season by allowing a total of 42 runs and dropping three of four against the Los Angeles Dodgers, turned in a complete performance on Monday as Merrill Kelly tossed six strong innings and Ketel Marte and David Peralta collected six of the team’s 15 hits.

• San Diego stumbled after taking three of four from San Francisco but created a buzz in the sixth inning when rookie shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. belted his first major league home run. Tatis is 4-for-18 for the Padres while star third baseman Manny Machado is also off to a slow start, going 4-for-18 with no extra-base hits.

• Greinke is looking to bounce back after allowing four homers and a total of seven runs over 3 2/3 innings in an Opening Day loss to the Dodgers. “I felt good,” Greinke told reporters. “I just didn’t pitch very good. A lot of mistakes. Just not a lot of good things going on out there.” The five-time All-Star has dominated the Padres in 22 career starts, going 11-2 with a 2.20 ERA – including 5-2 with a 1.96 mark in 13 outings at Petco Park.

• The Padres’ youngest Opening Day starter in 47 years, Lauer pitched six scoreless innings in a 2-0 win over San Francisco last Thursday. The 23-year-old native of Ohio threw 70 pitches and allowed four hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Lauer was 1-0 with a 0.79 ERA in two starts against Arizona last season and owns a 3-4 record and 3.99 mark in 12 career starts at Petco Park.

• The Diamondbacks are 9-3 in their last 12 games at Petco Park.

• Arizona recalled RHP Jon Duplantier from Triple-A Reno and optioned INF Ildemaro Vargas to the Aces.

• San Diego acquired RHP Matt Wisler from Cincinnati for RHP Diomar Lopez.
