• Despite winning the National League West in each of the previous six seasons and making the World Series in each of the last two, the Los Angeles Dodgers cleared some room on the roster with one eye on lowering the payroll and another on ushering in the future. The Dodgers’ rookies made their presence felt time and again in their last series and attempt to carry it over into the next one beginning Monday when they begin a three-game set versus the host Arizona Diamondbacks. Among the moves Los Angeles made in the offseason included a seven-player trade that sent Yasiel Puig, Matt Kemp and Alex Wood to Cincinnati, giving the club a chance to free up some playing time for top prospects such as Alex Verdugo. The 23-year-old Arizona native (Saturday) was part of making major-league history during the Dodgers’ sweep of Colorado over the weekend, joining Matt Beaty (Friday) and Will Smith (Sunday) to become the first trio of rookies to hit walk-off homers on three consecutive days.

• Fresh off a 9-2 homestand and riding a six-game winning streak, Los Angeles will carry a 13-game division lead into Arizona, which snapped a season-long, six-game skid with Sunday’s 3-2, 10-inning victory over San Francisco. Tim Locastro delivered a walk-off hit of his own to help the Diamondbacks get their first win during their nine-game homestand, singling home Nick Ahmed to move Arizona (39-40) within one game of .500.

• Kershaw won his second straight start and improved to 2-1 with a 1.67 ERA in four June turns following Tuesday’s victory against San Francisco, as he fanned six over seven scoreless innings. The outing marked the 11th time in 12 trips to the mound the three-time Cy Young Award winner logged a quality start. Eduardo Escobar (2-for-6) and Ketel Marte (4-for-16) each have one homer against Kershaw, who is 6-8 with a 3.70 ERA in 15 starts at Chase Field.

• Greinke’s recent struggles at home continued Wednesday against Colorado when he surrendered five runs on a season-high 11 hits across seven innings. The five-time All-Star opened the month by giving up four runs over as many frames versus the visiting New York Mets before recording two scoreless outings on the road. Cody Bellinger (9-for-22), Joc Pederson (8-for-25) and Justin Turner (10-for-30) have each homered twice off Greinke, who was tagged for seven runs – four homers – over 3 2/3 innings versus the Dodgers in his season debut.

• Bellinger is hitting .414 with four homers and 10 RBIs in six games versus the Diamondbacks this season.

• Marte, who did not play Sunday due to a groin issue, needs two hits in his next game to tie Luis Gonzalez (seven; 2001) for the longest multi-hit streak in club history.

• Los Angeles INF/OF Chris Taylor is batting .382 with three doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs since taking over as the primary shortstop for the injured Corey Seager 11 games ago.
