• The Colorado Rockies look to rebound after a rough weekend in Los Angeles when they continue their three-city road trip against National League West rivals with the first of three contests against the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. The Rockies swept three games at Arizona to begin the trek before coming up empty in three straight against the Dodgers, who earned walk-off victories in all of them. Colorado relegated All-Stars Nolan Arenado (7-for-19 over the last six games) and Charlie Blackmon (.452 batting average over the last 13 games) to pinch hitting Sunday and still recorded 10 hits, but rookie Will Smith belted a three-run homer in the ninth to give the Dodgers the victory. Right-hander Jon Gray, who is 0-3 with a 5.18 ERA in seven starts against the Giants in his career, gets the ball for the Rockies in the series opener and lefty Drew Pomeranz hopes to continue his success against his former team as he makes his 14th start overall in 2019.

• San Francisco failed to finish off a three-game sweep at Arizona on Sunday, dropping a 3-2 decision in 10 innings after managing just four hits overall. Kevin Pillar launched a solo homer for one of the Giants’ runs Sunday and has hit safely in six straight games (10-for-23, two homers), but his team was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position in the setback.

• Gray has won his last two starts, including Wednesday at Arizona when he limited the Diamondbacks to two runs (one earned) on six hits over six innings. The 27-year-old Oklahoma native has struck out 97 batters across 90 1/3 innings and does not have a loss since May 17. PIllar is 2-for-6 with a double and a homer versus Gray, who suffered the loss at San Francisco despite permitting just one run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings on April 11.

• Pomeranz began June with two solid outings in San Francisco wins but struggled in his third Wednesday when he allowed seven runs on nine hits (three homers) over 4 1/3 innings. The 30-year-old Ole Miss product had given up just two unearned runs on eight hits over 10 innings in his previous two outings. Chris Iannetta is 2-for-4 with a homer against Pomeranz, who is 2-0 with a 1.89 ERA in five career appearances (three starts) versus Colorado.

• San Francisco LF Alex Dickerson was hitless Sunday after going 5-for-9 with nine RBIs in his first two games since being acquired from San Diego.

• Colorado recalled 2B/OF Garrett Hampson on Sunday and he went 2-for-5 with a run scored in the loss. RHP Jeff Hoffman was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque to make room for Hampson.

• The Giants have won four of six meetings this year – three of four at home – after the Rockies won the season series 12-7 in 2018.
