• The surging Tampa Bay Rays aim for their second straight series sweep when they cap a two-game set against the visiting Miami Marlins on Sunday. Following three straight impressive wins at Fenway Park, the Rays picked up an 8-6 victory Saturday to open the Citrus Series while securing their hold on the second wild-card spot in the American League. Tampa Bay has won five in a row overall and is averaging 8.2 runs in that span, with newcomer Eric Sogard doing plenty of the damage since he arrived in a trade with Toronto at the deadline. Sogard hit a three-run homer and a two-run homer in Saturday’s win and is 5-for-13 with six RBIs and four runs scored in four games with the Rays.

• His new team will try to match its longest winning streak of the season behind right-hander Yonny Chirinos, who opposes lefty Caleb Smith on Sunday. Shortstop Miguel Rojas had a pair of hits in Saturday’s loss for Miami and he is hitting .389 with eight runs scored during a 10-game hitting streak.

• Smith is 4-0 with a 3.48 ERA in five starts since returning from a hip injury roughly a month ago. He has lasted seven innings while recording nine strikeouts in each of his last two outings. The Sam Houston State product suffered the loss after giving up two runs in 5 1/3 frames against Tampa Bay on May 14 at home.

• Chirinos had his shortest outing in over two months with four innings at Toronto last Sunday, giving up seven runs and eight hits with three walks and four strikeouts. He is 0-1 with a 7.98 ERA over his last three starts while giving up 23 hits in 14 2/3 frames. The 25-year-old, who is facing the Marlins for the first time, is 1-0 with a 1.98 ERA in three games (one start) during interleague play.

• Marlins 3B Jon Berti is 6-for-13 with three extra-base hits over his last three games.

• Rays OF/DH Austin Meadows has homered in three straight contests.

• Tampa Bay RHP Nick Anderson has tossed two scoreless innings while striking out four in two appearances since being acquired from Miami on Wednesday.
