Brandon Nimmo hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the ninth inning as the Mets posted a 4-2 victory on Monday. New York has won four of its last five contests and is 34-35 on the road despite being 13 games below .500 overall. Amed Rosario recorded three hits in the series opener and is 12-for-29 with three stolen bases during his six-game hitting streak.

The Dodgers fell one-half game behind first-place Colorado in the National League West despite losing for just the second time in 10 contests. Los Angeles is struggling to score runs, producing three or fewer in six straight games and 15 overall during that span.

Vargas has won three consecutive starts, allowing just three runs and 13 hits over 16 2/3 innings during that span. The 35-year-old is 3-4 with a 7.36 ERA on the road, with two of those victories coming during his recent hot stretch. Vargas is 2-2 with a 4.39 ERA in four career starts against the Dodgers but hasn’t faced them since giving up two runs over seven frames in a victory on May 30, 2013 while with the Los Angeles Angels.

Hill won four consecutive decisions before falling to Arizona in his last outing, when he gave up three runs and six hits over five innings. The 38-year-old has experienced consistency issues with his command as he has issued fewer than two walks in five of his last eight starts and four of more in each of the other three. Hill allowed four runs and five hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Mets on June 24 and is 1-2 with a 7.83 ERA in seven career appearances (five starts) versus the club.

New York RF-1B Jay Bruce has gone without a homer or RBI in nine straight games since belting a two-run shot against Washington on Aug. 24 in his first contest following a two-month absence due to a hip injury.
