• Fernando Tatis Jr. has been a bright spot for the San Diego Padres this season, and the rookie looks to continue his stellar play when the team hosts the Colorado Rockies on Friday for the second contest of their four-game series. Tatis extended his hitting streak to 12 games by going 2-for-5 in San Diego’s 9-3 triumph on Thursday. The 22-year-old Dominican has gone deep in three consecutive contests as he belted his franchise-record sixth leadoff homer, raising his season total to 22 blasts, and has collected six RBIs during a four-game run. Wil Myers highlighted a five-run sixth inning with a two-run double for the Padres, who are six games back in the National League wild-card race.

• Colorado fell to 0-3 on its six-game road trip despite outhitting San Diego 13-8. Charlie Blackmon extended his hitting streak to seven games by going 2-for-4 with his 24th homer of the season and is five hits away from 1,200 for his career.

• Freeland took a step toward putting a rough July behind him on Sunday, ending his 11-start winless streak by limiting San Francisco to two runs and five hits over five innings. It was the first victory since April 18 for the 26-year-old native of Denver, who has posted a 4.91 ERA on the road as opposed to a ghastly 9.50 mark at home. Freeland is 2-2 with a 4.03 ERA in six starts and two relief appearances against San Diego in his career.

• Quantrill won four consecutive decisions before Saturday, when he yielded four runs – two earned – and six hits over five innings in a loss to the Dodgers in Los Angeles. The 24-year-old Canadian rookie is unbeaten in his last four turns at home, going 1-0 while allowing only six runs and 16 hits over 20 2/3 frames. Quantrill made his lone start versus the Rockies on June 14 and escaped with a no-decision after surrendering four runs and six hits over five innings in Colorado.

• Padres C Francisco Mejia is swinging a hot bat as he has gone 8-for-12 over his last three games.

• Colorado SS Trevor Story is riding a seven-game hitting streak during which he has collected four homers and seven RBIs.

• San Diego placed Adrian Morejon (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list and activated fellow LHP Jose Castillo (elbow), who struck out two batters, walked one and hit another on Thursday before exiting his season debut with an apparent injury.
