• The first-place Minnesota Twins look to add more breathing room in the American League Central race when they visit the Cleveland Indians on Saturday night for the second of a three-game set. The Twins rallied with three runs in the seventh inning – keyed by Jorge Polanco’s two-run double – for a 5-3 victory to extend their division lead over the Indians to 6 1/2 games. Miguel Sano takes a 10-game hitting streak (13-for-34, four homers) into Saturday’s game and teammate Mitch Garver homered Friday to improve to 7-for-19 with two blasts and four RBIs in his last four games for Minnesota, which had lost six of 10 before the break. Jake Odorizzi hopes to get back to his All-Star form when he takes the ball in the second game of the series for the Twins while Cleveland, which holds down the second wild card in the AL, counters with fellow right-hander Trevor Bauer.

• The Indians saw their season-high six-game winning streak come to an end Friday as the bullpen imploded, but they have still won 11 of 15 contests since losing back-to-back 13-0 matchups with the major league-worst Baltimore Orioles last month. All-Star Carlos Santana homered Friday and has reached base in 30 straight games for Cleveland and teammate Roberto Perez is 8-for-16 with a pair of homers and six RBIs in his last four contests.

• Odorizzi missed a chance to pitch in his first All-Star Game due to a blister on his right middle finger, but is expected to be ready for Saturday’s contest. The 29-year-old Illinois native is winless in his last three while allowing 13 runs (12 earned) on 16 hits across 12 1/3 innings and has served up six homers in the past four outings. Francisco Lindor is 6-for-17 with a pair of homers versus Odorizzi, who opened the season with six innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against Cleveland on March 30.

• Bauer is unbeaten in his last six trips to the mound after limiting Cincinnati to one run on four hits over seven innings in a victory on July 7. The 28-year-old UCLA product boasts 149 strikeouts across 132 innings this season, including 27 in the past three starts, but has permitted six runs over 15 frames while going 0-1 in two starts against Minnesota in 2019. Max Kepler is 11-for-34 with three homers versus Bauer, who is 2-4 with a 4.96 ERA at home as opposed to 6-2 with a 2.43 mark on the road.

• Cleveland 1B-LF Jake Bauers was hitless Friday, but is 12-for-26 with seven RBIs in his last seven contests.

• Minnesota INF-OF Luis Arraez is 11-for-32 with a homer during a seven-game hitting streak.

• The Indians kept OF Tyler Naquin out of the lineup Friday to get treatment for a sore back.
