• The New York Yankees aim to complete a four-game series sweep when they visit the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. New York has won a season-best six straight and eight of its last nine after claiming the first three games of the set by a total of four runs. DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and stroked the tiebreaking single in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s 6-5 victory and is 12-for-31 with 12 RBIs with runners in scoring position. The Yankees, who rallied from a five-run deficit Wednesday, have scored 39 runs during their winning streak, tallying at least six in five of the six games.

• Los Angeles has dropped three straight games and nine of its last 10 while allowing at least five runs in nine of the contests. Andrelton Simmons hit two homers Wednesday for the Angels, who are 1-6 on an eight-game homestand.

• Tanaka is coming off a strong outing as he allowed one run and four hits over seven innings while beating the Kansas City Royals. The 30-year-old from Japan has given up one earned run in four of his five starts and has issued eight walks while striking out 28. Tanaka has fared well against the Angels as he is 3-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in six career outings, and has struck out Mike Trout (4-for-13) five times.

• Cahill has served up eight homers in 26 1/3 innings – the same number he allowed last season in 110 frames. The 31-year-old gave up three homers in his last outing when he allowed five runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings while losing to the Seattle Mariners and has given up five in 8 1/3 innings over his last two outings. Cahill is 1-4 with a 10.09 ERA and 10 homers allowed in seven career appearances (six starts) against the Yankees.

• Angels 3B Zack Cozart (neck) was scratched from Wednesday’s starting lineup because of dizziness – he was injured while diving into second base Monday.

• New York C Gary Sanchez (calf) was activated from the 10-day injured list and struck out in all four at-bats, OF Clint Frazier (ankle) will be placed on the injured list, C Kyle Higashioka and struggling RHP Chad Green (16.43 ERA) were optioned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and LHP Stephen Tarpley was recalled from the same Triple-A affiliate while RHP Joe Harvey is expected to be recalled Thursday.

• Los Angeles DH Shohei Ohtani (elbow) faced live pitching in a simulated game Wednesday and remains on track to be activated in early May.
