• Despite advancing to the Round of 32 of last season’s UEFA Europa League (UEL), Maccabi Tel Aviv have had to work hard just to qualify for UEFA’s new third-tier Europa Conference League (UECL) after Israel was awarded no direct entry into the upcoming UEL. Last season was just the second time Maccabi advanced from the group stage of a UEFA competition, with a home draw to Spanish club Villarreal amongst the highlights.

• Alashkert are one beneficiary of UEFA’s expansion, having become the first club from Armenia to participate in the group stage of a UEFA tournament despite a seventh consecutive failure to qualify for the main stage of the Champions League and/or UEL. It is a fitting honour for one of the Armenia Premier League’s founding members.
