Coby White is having his moment for the Chicago Bulls, but the team still isn’t finding a way to win consistently. White will try to lead the Bulls to their first road win in over a month when they visit the New York Knicks on Saturday. White, who skipped practice on Thursday with a back injury and is day-to-day, scored a season-high 35 points in Tuesday’s 124-122 home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder after posting 33 points in each of the previous two contests, making him the first rookie in history with three straight 30-plus off the bench. “I said this from Day 1, he’s special,” Chicago star guard Zach LaVine told reporters. “He can score the ball like no other and he continues to get better. He’s 20 years old. He’s starting to find his groove right now. He’s coming off the bench right now, but when I’m out he’s picking it up and he’s keeping us in the game.”

The Bulls own one win during White’s three-game hot streak but have a good chance to add another to the victory column against the Knicks, who slump into the contest on a six-game slide after suffering a 115-106 setback on Thursday at Philadelphia. “The big thing we’re looking at it as a staff is how well we’re playing collectively,” New York interim coach Mike Miller told reporters after the latest setback. “I thought it was a good sign we played as well as we did in the second half. They weren’t worried about the score. That’s as well as we’ve played in the last few games for 24 minutes.”

LaVine poured in 41 points on 19-of-35 shooting in Tuesday’s loss to push his season average to 25.5 points but is getting frustrated with the team’s inability to generate victories. “Teams are jumping on us and I don’t think we’re responding, and then we figure it out, ‘Oh, we’ve got to do this or that,'” LaVine told reporters. “But sometimes it’s too late because it takes so much energy to get back into the game. You’ve got to almost play perfect down the stretch. It’s the tale of our season. We play hard, we have ups and downs, we’re a little short at the end.” Chicago’s last six losses have come by 12 or fewer points.

New York clinched its seventh consecutive losing season with Thursday’s loss and is trying to find the pieces that it can build around the rest of the way. Veteran forward Maurice Harkless, who is still just 26 years old and is on his fourth team with the Knicks after arriving at the trade deadline, is trying to make himself a part of the team’s future and scored 17 points on Thursday – his highest total in five games with the team. “We got a lot of work to do,” Harkless told the New York Post. “We got to play the right way, build habits. It’s a process. Not going to happen overnight. We have some good pieces here.”

Bulls C Wendell Carter Jr. (ankle) could return from a 22-game absence on Saturday.

Knicks PG Dennis Smith Jr. left Thursday’s game with concussion-like symptoms and is day-to-day.

Chicago snapped a three-game losing streak in the series with a 120-102 home victory on Nov. 12.
