The Utah Jazz are quietly climbing the standings in the Western Conference and look like one of the best teams in the league with wins in five straight and 10 of 11. The Jazz will try to make it six straight and sweep a three-game road trip when they visit the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. Utah is leaning on star guard Donovan Mitchell for offensive production but is getting strong performances up and down the roster over the last 11 games and had five players score in double figures in Saturday’s 109-96 victory at Orlando. “I think we have guys that genuinely love each other,” Mitchell told reporters after the win. “I don’t use that word lightly. We have guys that want to be around each other, want to make plays for each other. When you have that type of chemistry, you want to see your guys succeed.”

The Pelicans are coming in hot as well with wins in six of the last eight games after JJ Redick’s tie-breaking layup in the final seconds lifted them to a 117-115 win at Sacramento on Saturday. New Orleans is finding its own balance on offense and had six players score in double figures while getting double-doubles from Derrick Favors and Lonzo Ball against the Kings.

Mitchell scored 32 points on 14-of-21 shooting on Saturday, but the surprise performance came off the bench from forward Georges Niang. The 26-year-old scored a season-high 15 points while going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and helped Utah pull away in the fourth quarter. “He came out there hitting shots, making the right reads,” Mitchell told reporters of Niang. “He’s a guy that’s not really talked about, but one that should be. He’s a guy that puts in a lot of work. We respect him, we all love him, he brings the same energy every day, good or bad. It’s days like this, when you see him hoop the way he’s been hooping, it’s incredible to see.”

Ball scored a team-high 24 points to go with 10 assists and six rebounds on Saturday and is increasing his production of late to take some of the pressure off Brandon Ingram and Jrue Holiday. Ball is averaging 24.7 points, 8.3 assists and six rebounds over the last three contests and scored at least 20 points in each after reaching the mark once in his first 25 games. Favors recorded a double-double in each of the last four games and hauled in double-digit rebounds in each of the last eight contests.

Jazz SF Bojan Bogdanovic is shooting 34.9 percent from the floor over the last six games

Redick is 10-of-19 from the floor in two games since going scoreless on 0-of-3 shooting against Houston on Dec. 29.

Utah took the first meeting 128-120 at home on Nov. 23 behind 37 points from Mitchell.
