@ Memphis Grizzlies (14-28)
Current odds:
New York Knicks: (-120)
Memphis Grizzlies: (+100)
• The line for this game is Knicks by 1.5 points.
• Both the New York Knicks and Memphis Grizzlies have endured lengthy stretches without consecutive wins, but one of them will pick up a second straight victory when they meet Wednesday in Tennessee. The Knicks haven’t had a winning streak since a four-gamer from Dec. 10-16 and they’re coming off a 119-104 triumph at Brooklyn on Monday they hope sets the tone for another run. “It’s going to be huge,” Kristaps Porzingis told reporters of the team’s current seven-game road trip. “It’s going to show us where we are right now. We’ve been so close in so many games on the road that we’re right there. All we need is to stick together, finish the games better, and I’m sure the wins will come.” Porzingis had 26 points and nine rebounds while Michael Beasley finished with 23 and 10 as New York improved to 3-3 in its last six road games after a 2-13 beginning.
• The Grizzlies are without a winning streak since October but they’ve been more competitive lately, recovering from a 2-19 stretch to win five of their last nine games. The latest of those victories was a 123-114 decision over the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.
• Beasley paced a group of reserves that combined for 70 points while shooting 54.5 percent in the win over the Nets. Running the show for that group was rookie guard Frank Ntilikina, who recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists while chipping in seven rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal. “Frank’s an amazing player,” Beasley told reporters. “He has to learn what pace he wants to go. But as soon as he figures it out, Frank will be an easy triple-double guy. Easy triple-double.”
• Memphis recorded 24 assists – more than three over its season average – and had its second-best scoring total in Monday’s win, and contributions came from all over the place with eight different players scoring in double figures. “We shared the ball. We moved it,” center Marc Gasol told reporters. “We were moving our bodies. The ball was moving faster. We have been working on that in practice. Obviously, in the fourth quarter, we got a little more static. We had a lead and our defense was pretty good throughout three quarters so we were able to mess up a little bit in the fourth.” Dillon Brooks tied a career high with 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting after going 4-for-15 from the field over his previous two games.
• Courtney Lee, who scored a game-high 24 points in the 99-88 win over the Grizzlies at home last month, has made 44 straight free throws, tied with Chris Duhon (2008-09) for the franchise record.
• Gasol averages 19.3 points and 9.5 rebounds at home, compared to 17.5 and 7.6 on the road.
• Memphis has won six straight meetings at home.
