Seventh-ranked Michigan looks to avenge its first loss of the season when it gets another crack at No. 19 Wisconsin on Saturday in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines dropped a 64-54 decision to the Badgers on Jan. 19 but have won of four of their five games since the setback, including a 77-65 victory against Rutgers on Tuesday, to take sole possession of first place in the Big Ten and hope to stay on top by extending their home winning streak to 21 games. “I think we only have one more game left against a team that is not vying for the championship,” Michigan coach John Beilein told reporters. “We still have a lot to do so we’ll embrace the victory and get ready for Wisconsin.” Wisconsin extended its winning streak to six games by notching a 56-51 road victory against Minnesota on Wednesday.

The Badgers dropped to .500 in Big Ten play following losses to 15th-ranked Purdue and Maryland in mid-January before going on their unbeaten run, which includes three straight road wins. They can move into a tie with Michigan with 10 victories by sweeping the season series with the Wolverines. “You just find a way as I’ve been in this league long enough to know how hard it is on the road,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard told reporters. “We’re into February now and I watch the other games and see how they are and it’s punch for punch.”

Ethan Happ continued his standout senior season as he scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the win against Minnesota to register his 15th double-double, which is tied for the most in the Big Ten. Brad Davison added 10 points despite going 2-of-12 from the floor and Nate Reuvers flirted with a triple-double as he added nine points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots against the Golden Gophers. D’Mitrik Trice, who leads the Big Ten in 3-point percentage (45.2), drilled three triples, including a clutch 3-pointer with under two minutes remaining to clinch the win.

Ignas Brazdeikis, who was one of three freshmen named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List, knocked down a career-high five 3-pointers en route to 23 points in the win against Rutgers. Jordan Poole added 15 points while Zavier Simpson produced 14 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to help coach John Beilein become Michigan’s all-time leader in Big Ten victories with 121, which is one more than the legendary Johnny Orr. Charles Matthews, who was named to the 10-man shortlist for the Julius Erving Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top small forward, scored 11 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists against the Scarlet Knights.

Wisconsin has won seven of its last eight Big Ten road games.

Simpson has dished out five or more assists 18 times this season.

Michigan C Jon Teske leads the Big Ten in blocks per game (2.2).
