The line for this game is Arizona State by 5.5 points.

Reserve guard Alonzo Verge, Jr. has emerged as a difference-maker for surging Arizona State, which has won four in a row in Pac-12 play for the first time since the 2009-10 season. The Sun Devils look to extend the run on Sunday when they visit a California team that ranks last in the league in scoring at 62.2 points per game. Verge is averaging 17.2 points while shooting 55.4 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from 3-point range over the past five games for the Sun Devils, who have won six of their last seven games to pull within a half-game of conference leaders Oregon and Colorado. “Verge is playing with an air of confidence,” coach Bobby Hurley told reporters. “He wants the ball, and he’s letting me know, ‘Hey, I’m feeling it.’ I never want to take him out of the game. Once the game or the half starts, I’m looking to get him in the game.” Junior guard Remy Martin scored 24 points in Thursday’s 74-69 victory at Stanford while Verge added 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes off the bench.

The Sun Devils need to be careful not to overlook Cal, which has lost three straight but owns a 10-4 record at Haas Pavilion this season.

Hurley’s deep bench includes 6-9 freshman Jalen Graham, who is averaging 11.5 minutes per game and recorded six points, five rebounds and an assist in 16 minutes against Stanford. Martin is averaging a team-high 19.5 points while senior guard Rob Edwards is averaging 13.3 points with a total of 29 3-pointers over his last 10 games. The Sun Devils are second in the league in steals (7.8) and first in forced turnovers per game (16.4), but have struggled offensively at times and shot a season-low 31.3 percent in last Saturday’s 66-64 win over USC.

Guard Matt Bradley scored 19 points in Thursday’s 68-52 loss to Arizona while sophomore forward Andre Kelly added eight points and nine rebounds. Bradley is the only player scoring in double figures for the Bears (17.7 per game), and the 6-4, 220-pound sophomore will definitely be on the Sun Devils’ radar after averaging 21 points and 6.5 rebounds in two matchups last season. Picked to finish last in the Pac-12 preseason poll, Cal has shown improvement under first-year coach Mark Fox but lack many consistent scoring options after Bradley.

Cal is 41-40 all-time against Arizona State but looking to snap a four-game losing streak in the series.

Arizona State forward Romello White leads the Pac-12 in rebounding at 9.2 per game and is second in field goal percentage (.603).

The Sun Devils have forced 20-plus turnovers in back-to-back Pac-12 games for the first time since February 2001.
