LSU hasn’t done much losing lately – whether it be on the basketball court or on the football field – and rides a five-game winning streak into its SEC contest at Ole Miss on Saturday. The Tigers arrived in College Station, Texas, on Monday and watched the football team win the national championship before defeating Texas A&M 89-85 in overtime Tuesday for its 11th straight conference victory on the road, and coach Will Wade hopes the fun never ends. “Have you been to Louisiana? Wade asked reporters. “It will be, oh, shoot, all month? Until Mardi Gras. We party to the next party.” LSU will be without junior forward Charles Manning, a key bench player who broke a bone in his right foot Tuesday and is expected to miss one month.

The Rebels have lost four straight by a combined 50 points after a 71-55 setback at Florida on Tuesday. Ole Miss senior guard Breein Tyree, the club’s leading scorer at 17.8 points, missed the game after suffering back contusions in practice with coach Kermit Davis telling reporters: “We thought he may play. He just took a heck of a fall. I hope he’ll be available for LSU.”

All five starters reached double figures in scoring against Texas A&M with senior guard Skylar Mays and freshman forward Trendon Watford leading the way with 19 points apiece. Mays averages a team-high 16 points and shoots 49.4 percent from the field while Watford contributes 13.1 points and 6.7 rebounds. Sophomore forward Emmitt Williams averages 13.2 points and 6.8 rebounds while shooting 62 percent from the floor.

Sophomore forward KJ Buffen scored 20 points against Florida, increasing his average to 10.4 with his third 20-point game of the season. Sophomore guard Blake Hinson (11.4 points) recorded his first double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday. Tyree scores an SEC-leading 26.5 points per conference game and has recorded 20 or more points in eight contests this season.

The Tigers were tied for second nationally with Loyola Chicago in two-point shooting percentage at 57.3 with Dayton at 62.2.

Rebels junior C Khadim Sy (8.8 points, 5.1 rebounds) didn’t make the trip Tuesday (coach’s decision).

LSU has won two straight meetings and five of the last six after an 83-69 victory at Ole Miss last season.
