• Elche survived in La Liga by the skin of their teeth last season in what was their first season back in the top flight. A last day win was enough to keep Fran Escribá’s men up, and they will be desperate to avoid such a nervy finish this time around. Though, another long and difficult season is likely given the club’s budget, even if the permanent signing of Lucas Boye will help. He struck up a very decent partnership with Guido Carrillo last season.

• Athletic Club are a curious one, finishing 10th last season and losing both of the Copa del Rey finals they played. They did manage to win the Spanish Super Cup, and started brilliantly after the appointment of Marcelino, but things slowed down rapidly heading into the final months of the campaign. The Basque club need more goals, and with a limited pool of available signings due to their famous Basque-only policy, it will be up to Iñaki Williams to step up to the plate. There is also hope his younger brother, Nico Williams, will step up to the plate this season having had a taste of first-team action last term.
