ATP BNP Paribas Open: #21 Norrie v. #29 Basilashvili

Who will WIN the championship?

#21 Cameron Norrie (GBR)

#29 Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO)

Current odds:

Cameron Norrie: (-175)

Nikoloz Basilashvili: (+137)

Cameron Norrie seems to be extracting the maximum out of his career-best season so far in 2021. He couldn’t clear the first-round hurdle at Indian Wells during his previous two visits in 2018 and 2019 but has defeated two top-20 players (Diego Schwartzman and Roberto Bautista Agut), a former world #3 (Grigor Dimitrov), and a former Boys’ slam champion (Tommy Paul) over the last two weeks.

Nikoloz Basilashvili returned (the serve) to stay in the match during the second set of his third-round contest against Albert Ramos Vinolas earlier this week, but he now finds himself in the final. After fighting back and securing the win in three sets against the Spaniard (in R3), the Georgian has upset former world #8 Karen Khachanov, world #3 Stefanos Tsitsipas, and former American #1 Taylor Fritz in consecutive matches, dropping only one set in the process.

Head-to-head: Cameron Norrie leads 1-0 (6-0 6-3 in Rotterdam 2021). Regardless of that one-sided contest in Rotterdam earlier this year, both players are equally capable of beating each other, and whoever handles the pressure better will improve the chances of winning their biggest title. Having said that, the Brit is relatively more solid and consistent and will head into this clash as the slight favorite.
