• Novak Djokovic did not get the easiest of draws in Paris this fortnight as he had to face the in-form Hubert Hurkacz and a tricky opponent in Henri Laaksonen in the opening two rounds. However, the Serbian produced solid performance to move into the third round without dropping a set, 6-4 6-2 6-2 and 6-1 6-4 6-3.

• Italian qualifier Salvatore Caruso made the most of Gilles Simon’s recent fitness struggles to deliver an impressive straight-set win and move into the third round of French Open for the first time, 6-1 6-2 6-4. Apart from his three solid wins in the qualifying stages, he also impressed against the in-form Jaume Munar Clar in the first round.

• Gilles Simon could have made Novak Djokovic work for the win but the Italian has done the Serbian a huge favor by clearing the path, and anything other than a straightforward Djokovic win would be a surprise here.
