WTA BNP Paribas Open: #19 Pegula v. #4 Svitolina

Who will WIN this matchup?

#19 Jessica Pegula (USA)

#4 Elina Svitolina (UKR)

Current odds:

Jessica Pegula: (-110)

Elina Svitolina: (-110)

Elina Svitolina fought for two hours and 32 minutes under a scorching sun, rallied from 2-4 in the deciding set and served to stay in the match twice. The fourth seed eventually survived Sorana Cirstea, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6, to continue her spectacular season on the American hard courts.

Jessica Pegula extended her already best Indian Wells campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over the lucky loser and Portoroz champion Jasmine Paolini in 58 minutes. She was similarly efficient in her opening round against Sloane Stephens, beating her countrywoman at the cost of five games.

Head-to-head: 1-1. The pair have already met twice in 2021, with Elina Svitolina winning in Abu Dhabi in straight sets but falling to replicate at the Australian Open. Jessica Pegula, who was 0-6 against top 10 players before this Aussie Open, has won six of her last 10 such encounters.
