• Claude Puel has not included Cedric Soares, Ryan Bertrand or Matt Targett in the squad for the trip to Inter, which leaves the Southampton manager short of options at full-back. Maya Yoshida could be asked to deputise with Cuco Martina on the opposite side of the defence or Puel could alternatively use a three-man defence..

• Geoffrey Kondogbia, Joao Mario, Stevan Jovetic and Gabriel are not included in Inter’s Europa League squad and will not feature here. Felipe Melo is an injury doubt after missing their shock 2-1 defeat to Cagliari at the weekend.

• Inter’s Europa League campaign has been a disaster. They’ve lost both of their opening two matches and will welcome a confident Southampton side having lost each of their last three matches.

• Southampton are unbeaten in their last seven matches and have won five of those, only conceding one goal in that time. The Saints are one of just three sides yet to concede in the Europa League group stages.

• The Saints could inflict further misery on Inter, although that would mean becoming the first Premier League side in four matches to triumph against Inter in Milan.
