• The Milwaukee Brewers have been scoring at a pretty reasonable clip for the better part of the last month, but it pales in comparison to the weekend the San Diego Padres just experienced. The Padres hope to carry some shred of the offensive momentum they established during their last series into their next one when they begin a three-game set against the visiting Brewers on Monday. San Diego outscored Colorado 48-44 in the highest-scoring four-game series in modern history, salvaging a split with Sunday’s 14-13 triumph in which pitcher Matt Strahm drew a pinch-hit, bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning to snap a tie. Hunter Renfroe belted two more homers to increase his series total to five while Greg Garcia finished with four hits and four RBIs.

• Milwaukee has averaged 5.8 runs over its last 21 contests and improved to 12-9 over that stretch with Sunday’s 5-3 victory over San Francisco. Reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich doubled twice in the rubber match and is batting .472 with five homers during his season-high 13-game hitting streak.

• Chacin was nursing a lower back strain earlier this month but is expected to replace Freddy Peralta in the rotation. The 31-year-old journeyman has not pitched since getting roughed up for a season-high seven runs at Pittsburgh on May 31, capping a month in which he lost all four of his decisions and posted a 6.46 ERA in five turns. Chacin is 1-6 with a 7.39 ERA in seven road outings this season but owns a 7-2 mark and 3.52 ERA in 16 career appearances (12 starts) against San Diego.

• Lucchesi was unable to win three consecutive starts for the first time in his brief career Wednesday in San Francisco, taking the loss despite yielding three runs – two earned – and registering six strikeouts in as many innings. The Southeast Missouri State product has been sharp at home this season, however, going 5-2 with a 3.11 ERA while limiting opponents to a .202 batting average. Lorenzo Cain is 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles versus Lucchesi, who gave up three runs in 4 2/3 frames against Milwaukee last year.

• Padres 1B Eric Hosmer has knocked in multiple runs in a career-high four consecutive games and compiled 12 RBIs during a six-game streak.

• Yelich is hitting .356 with 51 home runs and 132 RBIs over his last 138 contests.

• San Diego outfielders have combined to hit a major league-best 52 home runs this season, including a team-high 23 by Renfroe.
