• The Tampa Bay Rays squandered a chance to put the defending World Series champions in a huge hole last weekend, absorbing a three-game sweep at home by the struggling Boston Red Sox. After rain wiped out Friday’s opener of a 10-game road trip, the Rays have a chance to exact some revenge against their American League East rivals when they play the first of two at Boston on Saturday afternoon.Tampa Bay has dropped five of seven since its 14-4 start to the year and also lost a key bat in the lineup when Joey Wendle fractured his right wrist when he was hit by a pitch in Wednesday’s 10-2 setback to Kansas City. “It’ll be a big test for us,” Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier told reporters of the rematch with the Red Sox. “It’s an important series for us getting revenge and proving to ourselves we can still beat the best teams in baseball. And we will.”

• The bats are finally starting to heat up for Boston, which rebounded from a doubleheader loss to Detroit by erupting for 18 runs in back-to-back wins to salvage a split of the four-game series. Reigning AL MVP Mookie Betts had two hits for the fifth time in eight games in Thursday’s 7-3 victory and is 11-for-26 with a homer and four doubles in that span.

• Morton registered a season-high nine strikeouts in a no-decision versus Boston last weekend but surrendered an early grand slam to Andrew Benintendi and was charged with five runs and as many hits over six innings. He also did not factor in the decision in his previous turn at Toronto, allowing one run on four hits over 4 2/3 innings after winning two of his first three starts. Morton is 3-1 with a 5.06 ERA against the Red Sox but Benintendi is 4-for-11 with a pair of homers and Xander Bogaerts 6-for-14 against him.

• Price struck out a season-high 10 in five innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against Tampa Bay — the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 2007 — last weekend after earning his first win with seven scoreless innings of three-hit ball against Baltimore on April 14. He made five starts against his former team last year, posting a 2-1 record and 2.20 ERA while fanning 32 batters in 32 1/3 innings. Avisail Garcia and Kiermaier have each homered off Price, although they are 4-for-17 and 5-for-19, respectively.

• Rays OF Tommy Pham is 12-for-27 over his last seven games.

• Red Sox rookie INF Michael Chavis homered for the second time in three games on Thursday.

• Boston and Tampa Bay will play a day-night doubleheader on June 8.
