The line for the game is California by 5 points.

Cal has dropped 12 of its last 13 games, but first-year coach Wyking Jones remained optimistic after his young team fell 77-73 to rival Stanford last Sunday.

The Bears’ best remaining chance for a victory could be against a Washington State team that opened the season with six straight wins but has gone 4-16 over its last 20 games.

The Cougars’ offense is extremely limited after guard Malachi Flynn and forward Robert Franks, who combined for 38 points in last Saturday’s 77-70 loss to Utah. Flynn has scored a total of 50 points in the last two games, but the team needs more production from guard Carter Skaggs, who is 0-for-12 from 3-point range during that stretch. “He’s a shooter, that’s what he does,” Flynn told reporters. “We’re always going to have confidence in him, we tell him to shoot every time he misses it. Eventually, it’s going to fall. That’s what he does.”

One bright spot in Sunday’s loss to Stanford was the play of freshman forward Justice Sueing, who scored 15 points after shooting 4-of-25 from the field in his previous two games. The team’s struggles at point guard continued against Stanford as Coleman and freshman Darius McNeill finished with five assists against three turnovers. Cal’s interior defense is led by seniors Marcus Lee and Kingsley Okoroh, but the pair was held to a combined six points and seven rebounds in last month’s meeting against the Cougars

Cal holds a 79-50 lead in the all-time series, including 48-18 in Berkeley.
