South Alabama opened with a 21-20 win at Mississippi State but will be hard-pressed to slow down senior Donnel Pumphrey, a Heisman Trophy candidate who has carried the 19th-ranked Aztecs to a 3-0 start while leading the nation with 599 rushing yards and a 199.7-yard average.
